Red tide still present off Lee, Collier counties

SANIBEL, FL - Parts of Southwest Florida are still seeing high concentrations of red tide, according to the latest report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Multiple fish kills have been detected in the bloom areas of southern Lee and Collier counties.

Wildlife officials say for the past few weeks there has also been a high concentration in the Tarpon Bay area on Sanibel, but it is slowly decreasing.

"What we are seeing is the concentration has gotten a little smaller this week, but the massive concentration looks like it's moving southeast from Sanibel, which is heading towards Fort Myers Beach," says J.N. Ding Darling Wildlife Refuse biologist Tara Wertz.

Biologists say it's unclear how long the red tide will stay in bloom.
