Grayson becomes involved in SeaWorld death investigation
ORLANDO --
U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson has intervened into a federal investigation of the death of the SeaWorld whale trainer.
Grayson, a Democrat from Orlando contacted OSHA this week to talk with them about the death of Dawn Brancheau.
"This is what a good congressman does," Grayson said. "I wanted to give the people at OSHA a local perspective on this matter."
OSHA is close to ending its investigation and is facing a deadline next week to assess any fines or citations by then.
The agency began an investigation into SeaWorld's safety practices six months ago after Brancheau was drowned by a killer whale named Tilikum.
SeaWorld has since barred trainers from being in the whale tanks.
Animal rights activists are accusing Grayson of pressuring investigators into downgrading their report before it becomes public.
