[MARINE_BIOLOGY_INTERNATIONAL] Deep sea creatures – Pelican Eel

 

The Umbrella Mouth Gulper Eel, also called the Pelican Eel, was discovered by Kyle Briggins. It is a deep-sea fish that is rarely seen by humans, but often gets caught if fishing nets. This is an eel-like fish and it is the only member of the genus EurypharynxEurypharyngidae. and the family

The Gulper Eel has an elongate body with a luminous organ at the end of the tail. The eyes are tiny and close to the snout. There are several rows of small teeth in the massive jaws. This species is black, sometimes with a white line or groove on either side of the dorsal fin. The Gulper Eel grows to 80cm in length.    more
