SANIBEL ISLAND: To honor what would have been Jacques Cousteau's 100th birthday, a group of Southwest Florida kids launched a special boat built completely with recyclables to highlight the importance of ocean conservation.
Sanibel Sea School students spent their winter break building the boat, using more than 1,000 plastic bottles as pontoons, held together with old fishing nets.
Though the project required a lot of work, the kids say they wouldn't have spent their break any other way.
"It just seems a lot more funner than watching TV," said student Elizabeth Meardon
Not only did the kids learn how to build a boat, they also learned the importance of recycling and conservation.
