PhD Scholarships at the University of Victoria:

One or Two Postgraduate Scholarships at the Ph.D. level are available in the
Department of Political Science, University of Victoria to work on two
projects headed by Dr. Amy Verdun. The first project is part of the DEUBAL
project (with U of Leiden, Charles University Prague and University of
Florida), and funding has been secured from the European Commission for a
period of two years. A one-year PhD fellowship of $ 15,000 will be made
available to a candidate willing to participate. The project explores the
changes in inter-institutional relations after implementation of the Lisbon
Treaty Based on literature on EU decision-making and theories of European
integration, and field research, the project seeks to understand expected
changes in inter-institutional relations and analyze how member states are
likely to try to influence decision-making, given the post-Lisbon situation.
Funding is available for fieldwork and conference attendance.

The second project �European Sovereign Debt Crisis: Lessons for European
Integration� investigates the responses by EU member state governments and
the EU level institutions to the 2010 sovereign debt crisis. The aim is to
understand the nature of the crisis and the European response to it. Funding
for this project has been applied for from the Social Science and Humanities
Research Council of Canada for a three year PhD fellowship worth $15,000 per
year (over the period 2011-2014, possibly with one final year of funding in
year four). Results will be made known in early April.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a short letter of interest
(indicating whether the applicant is interested in one or both projects),
CV, university transcripts, and ask three referees to send letters of
