e-NASS CfA: 1st Summer School in International Development Cooperation, Belgrade (DEADLINE postponed to 9 September 2010)

The Cooperation Office of the Embassy of Italy to Serbia invites you to the 1st Summer School in International Development Cooperation "PERSPECTIVES ON THE AGRO-FOOD SECTOR IN SERBIA AND THE WESTERN BALKANS: Developing new approaches and models, with an overview of Italian best-practices".

The initiative will be held in Belgrade, Palazzo Italia (Kneza Milosa 56), 4-7 October 2010.

The Summer School has the ambitious goal to tackle the challenges the agro-food sector is facing in the Western Balkans. Italian professionals and experts from the region will provide an exhaustive overview of best-practices from Italy that could be transferred to develop new approaches to the future evolution of the sector. The event will be devoted to: 1) The legal and institutional framework of the agro-food sector in the Western Balkans; 2) Priorities, operational programmes and financing opportunities in the agro-food sector in the Western Balkans along the pathway of the EU integration; 3) Certification: Policies and experiences of food geographical indication and certification; 4) Certification, marketing and exports to EU: models and examples from pre-accession Countries; 5) Food safety in the Western Balkans: future challenges, developments and opportunities; 6) New perspectives and opportunities for rural development as a result of expropriation of land and property belonging to criminal groups: presentation of an Italian case study; 7) The agro-food sector in the Western Balkans: policy framework and structural reforms.

Participants of the Summer School will have the opportunity to attend the final Workshop on 7 October organized by Cooperation Office of the Embassy of Italy to Serbia. The event, open to the public, will provide a platform for discussion and networking among all stakeholders (representatives of central and local institutions, academic and research institutions, certification agencies, consultancies, private companies and producers' associations) on the agro-food sector in the Western Balkans. The discussion will include the description of the financial instruments available to support the agro-food sector as well as a debate on the quality certifying labels of agro-food products. During the event, the results and recommendations of the Summer School will also be presented to the audience.

Dates: 4-7 October 2010

Target group: Students, researchers, scholars, civil servants and representatives of NGOs and SMEs from the region interested in analyzing the agro-food sector and the activities and programmes financed by EU and by the Italian Government in Serbia and the Western Balkans.

Participants: Attendance at the Summer School will be limited to 12 participants.

Working language: English

Fees: The Italian Government is sponsoring the Summer School, covering the cost of training materials, travel expenses and accommodation.

Minimum qualifications: The minimum qualification required for candidates' admission is a bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: Politics, Economics, Law, Social Sciences, Agrarian Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Development Cooperation studies. Specific research and/or professional experience will be considered an important asset.

Certificate: All participants will receive a Summer School certificate of attendance.
