(Sea World's woes multiply. What kind of infection can kill a killer whale in less than 24 hours? It's frightening. Orlando Sentinel.)
The first killer whale successfully born at SeaWorld Orlando has died, the park announced just after midnight today.
Kalina, 25, died Monday after a sudden illness, a park spokesman said in an e-mail.
The animal was eating well and seemed healthy on Sunday, but she grew ill Monday afternoon and died in the early evening, he said.
The results of a necropsy won't be known for up to six weeks.
Kalina was born Sept. 26, 1985, to a mother named Katina. Kalina went on to give birth to several calves of her own.
