* *

*2nd CONFERENCE FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS*

*8-9 April, 2011*

* *

*CALL FOR PAPERS:*

* *

*"Comparative Research on Turkey in connection to the Globalization process"
*

The purpose of this year's Graduate Conference, organized for a second
consecutive year by the Department of Political Science & IR of Boğaziçi
University is to bring together pieces of academic work on Turkish politics
that employ a comparative perspective vis-à-vis other geographical and
thematic examples or different historical periods within Turkish political
history. Our aim is to function as a meeting forum for aspiring academics
and the graduate students and members of our department that will provide a
first-hand knowledge of research currently carried out in Turkey and abroad.

Contrary to common practices and traditional narratives which tend to
over-emphasize the peculiarity of Turkish Politics as an exception to global
trends, our conference seeks to examine the comparable dimensions of the
field. Consequently we strongly encourage partakers to assess the
theoretical approaches that have been used so far to analyze Turkish
Politics, and more specifically the degree to which these approaches have
been useful or contrary to their individual research.

The themes that will be handled at the conference include:

- Foreign Policy
- Political Parties and Elections
- Economic Policy
- Institutions and Governance
- the Nation State , Citizenship
- Democratization
- Identity and Culture-related issues
- Gender
- Urban Development
- New Communication Technologies

We welcome applications from students registered for a Maters or PhD degree
in the academic year 2010-11. Favouring a multidisciplinary approach and a
variety of perspectives to the issues at hand, apart from Political Science
and IR scholars the conference is also open to researchers from all other
branches of the Social Sciences.

Applicants should fill in the application form found at our website (
http://bounpolsgradcon.blogspot.com )

and return via email to *pols.gradconf@boun.edu.tr* by the *December, 17,
2010* the latest. All applications will be examined by the Conference's
Scientific Committee on a strictly anonymous basis. Accepted applicants will
be notified by December, 30, 2010.

The conference's preferred language is Turkish while presentations in
English are also acceptable. Please make sure you indicate your language of
preference in your application forms.

Looking forward to seeing you at Boğaziçi in April 2011,

The 2nd Graduate Student Conference Organizing Committee,
