The Marine Life Park (MLP) of Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) has responded to Change.org's allegations claiming that their dolphins are in a safe and conducive facility.

Change had gathered more than 100,000 petitions requesting the organisation to free their 25 bottlenose dolphins.

RWS bought the mammals for an "interactive dolphin spa programme" at its MLP, where visitors can interact with the animals.

MLP says that the bottlenose dolphins in their facility are provided with very best care and exceed stringent international regulations.

The mammals are given space to play, rest and grow healthily, MLP said in a statement released today.

It added that they were deeply saddened by the passing of their two dolphins last year, and that no expense was spared in attempting to save the two which were afflicted by a water and air-borne bacterial infection.

They are staffed with a team of experts, including world-renowned veterinarians and scientists from various fields in marine husbandry.

MLP also pointed out scientific data that proved that dolphins have been able to breed and survive successfully in marine parks.

They claimed that dolphins in captivity have lived beyond 40 years, which is double the average life span of dolphins in the wild.

As value-add, MLP says that as a zoological facility, it "provides strong and inspiring messages to visitors" that documentaries are unable to provide.

The organization said the dolphins in their care were collected according to the standards provided by Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), and no young dolphins or lactating mothers were among them.
