Search resuming for wayward killer whale in Alaska River; 2 others found dead

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Federal biologists are searching again Monday for a juvenile killer whale who wandered far up a river in southwestern Alaska with two other orcas that have since died.
NOAA Fisheries spokeswoman Julie Speegle says the carcasses of the two killer whales were spotted during a flight over the Nushagak River on Saturday.
A necropsy on the pair, which appeared to be adults, is planned for early this week.
There were no sightings of the third orca Sunday. Officials want to assess its health in deciding whether to try to force it out to sea.
The whales were first spotted in the river about three weeks ago.
