No action over 'Facebook sale' of Norfolk whale teeth
A youth is unlikely to face prosecution over claims the teeth and jaw of a dead whale found in Norfolk were offered for sale on Facebook, police have said.
Officers were contacted after an advert appeared on the website offering 15 loose teeth and 11 still in the jaw for £5 each, or £45 for the whole jaw.
The sperm whale's corpse was washed up on a beach in Old Hunstanton, Norfolk, on Christmas Eve.
Norfolk police said it was "likely" no further action would be taken.
"Inquiries continue into other reports of the theft and sale of whale remains linked to the sperm whale washed up on the beach at Old Hunstanton," a spokesman said.
The whale, thought to have died from natural causes, has attracted hundreds of visitors.
Contractors started to remove the corpse from the beach on Wednesday, the borough council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk confirmed.
