Track sharks on your iPhone

Tracking sharks swimming off the Pacific Coast is now as easy as pulling out your smartphone.

The Institute for Marine Conservation in California has created an app that is now available to anyone with an iPhone or iPad.

The app allows people to learn about Great White sharks at the same time researchers do.

It's the first of its kind and shows tracking data, history of shark attack areas, trivia and even a game about what it's like to be a young shark off the coast of Southern California.

Education is the true focus of the app.

It won't be very useful for people on the beach to use if you are wondering if sharks are swimming near you, but the app will allow people to observe seasonal trends and figure out safer times to swim.

The app is called Expedition White Shark and costs about $4 to download from the App Store.

The money raised from the app will go toward funds for continued research on Great White sharks.
