COLLIER COUNTY - FL
Portions of some Collier County beaches will be closed beginning April 3rd to help protect nesting shorebirds.
The affected areas include sections of Big Marco Pass Critical Wildlife Area, Caxambas Pass Critical Wildlife Area, and portions of Marco Island city beach.
Nesting areas for the least tern, black skimmer, snowy plover, and Wilson's plover will be closed off and marked. They will be managed by FWX biologists and volunteers.
The closed areas may change or shift depending on where the birds choose to nest.
The areas will remain closed until the end of nesting season in mid-August, or until nesting is complete.
