Two sea turtle nests discovered
Apr 23, 2012 10:47 AM EDT
LEE COUNTY, FL - Sea turtle nesting season is off to an early start in Southwest Florida. Wildlife groups have spotted two nests since Friday, one week before the typical nesting season begins.
A nest was discovered on Captiva Island Friday and another nest was found at Access Point 3 on Bonita Beach.
Turtle Time volunteers have roped off the nest on Bonita Beach to keep people from touching or moving the sand.
The nest is behind a vacant home for rent, behind shrubs that will help protect it.
The official start to turtle nesting season is May 1st and that's when regulations to protect the nests and the turtles take effect.
