Because of the drought, alligators are on the move and seeking fresh sources of water and food, the Sheriff's Office says.

On May 2, deputies and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officers subdued a 7-foot gator initially seen in the driveway of a Deep Creek home in the 26000 block of Copiapo Circle.

On Saturday, at 3:30 a.m., a resident discovered another 7-foot gator in the swimming pool of a home in the 3500 block of Pennyroyal Road in the Riverwood subdivision near El Jobean. The reptile broke through a screen to take a swim.

That same day, a trapper removed a gator that was on the sidewalk between Port Charlotte High School and Murdock Circle Apartments.
