PALM SHORES, Fla. (AP) - Nearly two-dozen baby pelicans are being rehabilitated in central Florida after they washed up in the Panhandle during Tropical Storm Debby.
Many bird rescuers in the Panhandle were forced to evacuate due to floodwaters. They sent 23 baby pelicans to the Florida Wildlife Hospital and Sanctuary recently. The birds will spend several months at the sanctuary until they are big enough to return to the wild. They will be released locally.
Florida Today (http://lb.vg/vMKjQ ) reports other animal rehab centers around the state have also been taking in pelicans displaced by the storm.
