Record-Breaking 2012 Nesting Season Coming to a Close

As of October 3rd, LMC research biologists have documented a total of 19,921 sea turtle crawls on Juno Beach and Jupiter, including 9,014 total nests. The team completed their last official survey of the season on September 30, but will continue monitoring existing marked nests daily until their incubation is complete.

Data entry from Tequesta crawls and nests is now complete and we can now provide a combined, preliminary nest total for all three LMC survey beaches. So far this year, we have documented a combined total of 28,891 crawls, including a total of 13,166 nests on Juno Beach, Jupiter and Tequesta. Please note that our Tequesta data are still being verified for accuracy, and these nest totals are preliminary.

When all is said and done, this will be the second highest nesting season since LMC began monitoring Juno Beach and the highest amount of total crawls that we have ever seen on our beaches!
